To follow and understand this example, it is necessary to download the Gantt charts showing all project activities and dates.
Impacted as Planned is a modelled technique based on creating a simulation by inserting activities into the baseline programme with all activities linked. These added activities represent the delay events that have occurred or the impacts derived from sequence changes.
It is one of the quickest and simplest methods to apply. First, it is necessary to know all the delay events to be modelled and to have a baseline in electronic format.
In this example, a wind farm with three main stakeholders will be analysed. On one side, there is the owner and developer, who is responsible for defining the location of the wind turbines and carrying out the necessary earthworks. The owner has contracted a wind turbine manufacturer, which must manufacture, ship and install all wind turbines and acts as the party with overall responsibility for the project. The manufacturer has in turn subcontracted the installation works to a contractor, which will install and commission all the machines.
The analysis will be carried out from the manufacturer's point of view against the contractor. The analysis would be completely different if it were carried out from the manufacturer's point of view against the owner.
Once the delays to be modelled have been listed and the baseline has been identified, the events must be created and linked to the affected activities. By modelling the events that are the manufacturer's responsibility, the new finish date obtained is 5 May, which represents a delay of 23 calendar days compared with 12 April, the baseline finish date.
By inserting the delay events that are the contractor's responsibility into the baseline and recalculating, the finish date obtained is 26 April, which represents a delay of 14 calendar days compared with 12 April, the baseline finish date.
